Formovie Introduces Xming Episode One: A New Compact 1080p Projector

Formovie has introduced a new addition to its lineup: the Xming Episode One projector. Falling under the company’s independent sub-brand, Xming, this new projector is designed to offer affordability and portability without compromising on essential features. With a price tag of $299, Episode One is set to attract both casual movie enthusiasts and those seeking a portable entertainment solution.

The Xming Episode One stands out with its compact dimensions and lightweight build. Weighing just 2.8 pounds and measuring 6.9 by 4.8 by 5.6 inches, it is designed for easy portability. This makes it an ideal choice for backyard movie nights, small to medium-sized rooms, or any setting where space and ease of movement are considerations.

Despite its small size, the projector is equipped with an LED light source, offering 150 CVIA lumens of brightness, which is approximately equivalent to 122 ANSI lumens. This brightness level, while not on par with high-end projectors, is sufficient for dark environments and casual viewing.

The Xming Episode One features a 1080p resolution, capable of projecting images ranging from 40 to 120 inches. Its throw ratio of 1.2:1 means that to project a 40-inch image, the projector needs to be about 41 inches (3.4 feet) from the screen, and for a 120-inch image, about 125 inches (10.4 feet). This makes it versatile enough for various room sizes. The projector also boasts a 1500:1 contrast ratio, ensuring clear and vivid images with deep darks and bright highlights.

Formovie has equipped the Xming Episode One with several features aimed at ease of use. The projector includes auto keystone correction and autofocus, simplifying the setup process. You can place the projector in different locations without worrying about manual adjustments to the image alignment.

Additionally, the projector runs on the Google TV operating system, providing access to a wide range of streaming apps, including Netflix, directly on the device. Chromecast built-in allows users to cast content from their smartphones or other compatible devices, adding to the convenience.

In terms of audio, the Episode One comes with two 3-watt internal speakers, which, while not exceptionally powerful, are adequate for casual viewing. The projector also supports Dolby Atmos when connected to a compatible sound system, enhancing the audio experience.

Connectivity options include one HDMI 2.1 input, a USB-A input, and a 3.5 mm analog jack for headphones or external speakers. Wireless connectivity is also well-supported with Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz).

While the Xming Episode One offers many advantages, it does come with a few limitations. Notably, the projector does not include an internal battery, meaning it must be connected to an AC power source using the included adapter. This might limit its portability for some users, as an extension cord would be necessary for outdoor or mobile setups.

Additionally, the brightness level of 150 CVIA lumens suggests that the projector performs best in dark environments, which could be a limitation for daytime use or brightly lit rooms.

Priced at £299, the Xming Episode One positions itself as a budget-friendly option within the projector market. This price point makes it competitive against similarly priced TVs, especially when you factor its ability to project larger images and its portability. Preorders for the Xming Episode One are currently open at ProjectorScreen and Formovie’s official website, with the official debut and initial shipments expected around mid-June, just in time for summer activities.
